EMERGENCY PROJECT
Reconstruction of the Balasan National High School
after TYPHOON YOLANDA 8 November 2013

In partnership with the Department of Education Region VI – Western Visayas, Balasan in the island of Iloilo.

Balasan National High School, a public secondary school in the Municipality of Balasan, province of Iloilo, is located 128 km away from Iloilo City. This is one of the outstanding and most beautiful schools in the 5th District. However, it was destroyed by “Typhoon Yolanda” when the super typhoon strongly hit the place last November 8, 2013.

The school has only 14 concrete buildings and there are still 12 temporary classrooms, which needs to be replaced with permanent ones. These are mainly used as academic classrooms to accommodate the 2.449 students and 108 members of teachers and staff headed.

“Typhoon Yolanda” brought great damages and destruction to the school. All the 12 temporary classrooms were destroyed and there are many damages in the concrete buildings. With the total destruction of the 12 temporary classrooms, there was a great shortage in the number of classrooms for the school thus the teachers and students could not hold classes regularly.

The reconstruction of PRO.DO.C.S. with autonomous funds

  1. the reconstruction of a classroom for the total value of € 12,500
  2. the reconstruction of the adjoining classroom bathrooms for the total value of € 2,850
