In this country PRO.DO.C.S. has realized international cooperation projects in the health sector by giving priority to the right to health of indigenous peoples in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the Apostolic Vicariate of San José del Amazonas in Iquitos and the local Organization Kichwaruna Wangurina (OR.KI.WAN.)

Follow up of the Micro-Network for the Coordination of Indigenous Community Health Services in High River Napo until 2020

The project qualifies and upgrades the professional competence of medical personnel of the Presidium of health and extend the “promotores de salud” network in all the villages of the area.

It provides, moreover, four fellowships to young indigenous Runa who are studying Dentistry, Midwifery, Nursing and Pharmacy/Biochemistry at the University of Iquitos, the capital of the Peruvian Amazon.

Micro-Network for the Coordination of Indigenous Community Health Services in High River Napo, n.12/2010, 2010-2013

The project realized the Micro-Network of 5 Hospital Unit with the Health Centre of Santa Clotilde, located in the Middle Napo area in collaboration with the Native Organization OR.KI.WAN.

In these 5 Hospital Unit work ten indigenous nurses who give first level support to the inhabitants of Runa communities, guarantee the first intervention to the patients and, if necessary, the transportation of critical patients at the Santa Clotilde Centre.

 

Enhancement of services offered by health facilities in the indigenous communities of the Alto Napo River: renovation and expansion of the Hospital Unit of Angoteros, n.104/2011, 2011

PRO.DO.C.S. renovated the Hospital Unit of Angoteros to meet the existing health needs of population, as well as to meet the patients’ needs by providing an appropriate structure to the Micro-Network for the Coordination of Indigenous Community Health Services.

“Two sides” economic development and promotion of socially-oriented enterprises in the areas of origin of Peruvian emigration in Italy, 2011-2013

Realized in partnership with FOCSIV, CGM, ALTROMERCATO.

The project consortium aims at complementing and supporting the emerging solidarity economy practices in Peru by providing support to networks of 12 small enterprises in Peru.

PRO.DO.C.S. was in charge to create n. 3 Fish Productive Centers, such as Micro-Social Enterprises Fish within indigenous communities Runa, in partnership with the Apostolic Vicariate of San José del Amazonas in Iquitos, the Health Centre of Santa Clotilde and the local Organization OR.KI.WAN.

“Community Medicine” High Napo – Iquitos, AID n.774, 1988-1995

Realized in partnership with the Ministerio de Salud – Unidad Departamental de Salud of Loreto, the Apostolic Vicariate of San José del Amazonas in Iquitos and the Organization Kichwaruna Wangurina (OR.KI.WAN.).

The project, as a specific intervention in the health sector, combined Community and Traditional Medicine, different from that one defined by the indigenous community as “white medicine”, the one from the West.

It accompanied the process of information on health services and the involvement of the local population on the right to health as well as the training of local operators at different levels, both as promotores de salud (health promoters) and as auxiliares de enfermeria (nursing auxiliaries).
