For nearly two decades, PRO.DO.C.S. has partnered with Pastoral Social Caritas del Beni in Bolivia’s Amazonian region through a long-standing collaboration aimed at improving access to healthcare services and addressing the most pressing health needs of local communities. Over the years, this partnership has supported a wide range of prevention, treatment, and healthcare assistance initiatives, developed in close dialogue with the local partner and with a particular focus on indigenous and rural populations.
One of the key initiatives supported through this collaboration is the annual campaign for children living with cleft lip and palate conditions, carried out at the Materno Infantil Hospital in Trinidad. Each year, families from indigenous and rural communities across the region receive support and accompaniment from Caritas, enabling children to access the surgical care they need and significantly improving their health and quality of life.
Since 2023, the partnership has further expanded to include support for cervical cancer prevention through screening programmes and diagnostic testing provided to approximately 1,000 women every year at the Caritas Health Centre in Trinidad.
In 2026, PRO.DO.C.S. also responded to a specific request from its local partner by supporting the development of the ophthalmology service at the Caritas Health Centre in Trinidad through the donation of an ophthalmic surgical microscope. This equipment will enable specialised eye microsurgery procedures for the treatment of conditions that are particularly widespread in the region, helping to improve access to essential eye care services for local communities.
