Comisión Intereclesial de Justicia y Paz (CIJP), based in Bogotá, is a Colombian human rights organisation that has spent more than three decades defending the rights of communities affected by armed conflict, forced displacement, and serious human rights violations. Through its work across several regions of the country, CIJP provides long-term accompaniment to communities seeking justice, protection, and lasting peace.
The partnership between PRO.DO.C.S. and CIJP is rooted in a shared commitment to protecting people and territories, strengthening community organisations, and supporting processes of truth, justice, reparation, and guarantees of non-repetition. Together, they promote a culture of peace, democratic participation, and respect for human rights.
One of CIJP’s most significant areas of work is its long-standing support for the Afro-descendant communities of the Bajo Atrato region through its partnership with CAVIDA (Community for Self-Determination, Life and Dignity of Cacarica), an organisation created by communities displaced during the armed conflict. Together, they have helped develop innovative civilian protection mechanisms, including the creation of Humanitarian Zones, while promoting historical memory, popular education, and the development of local leadership.
CIJP also supports the Red Somos Génesis, a community network that brings together more than 180 grassroots organisations from across Colombia. The network includes Afro-descendant, Indigenous, and rural communities, as well as women’s organisations, youth groups, and associations of victims of the armed conflict. Through this broad alliance, Red Somos Génesis promotes peacebuilding by advancing historical memory, human rights advocacy, environmental protection, and community participation, while strengthening local communities’ ability to influence decisions that shape their territories.
CIJP’s work is backed by a wide national and international network of organisations committed to the protection of human rights, providing financial support, political advocacy, and international accompaniment. Within this broader framework, PRO.DO.C.S. contributes to strengthening these collaborative efforts by supporting community-based initiatives grounded in historical memory, social justice, and the active participation of local communities.
